best stuff ever

I’m not big into hairspray. I’ve been using the same Herbal Essence hairspray since high school just because I like the way it smells.  I guess it works fine, but I’ve never felt the need to splurge on professional hair spray.  This Kenra Volume Hairspray 25 has changed my life! I got a fresh cut with bangs over the weekend and my hairstylist recommended it to me. I bought a trial sized bottle for $6, took it home, and WOW!!! It’s like magic.  It really makes your hair stay put, but it doesn’t come with that crunchy feel or look like most extreme-hold hairsprays do. I am seriously in love.  I went back to the salon the next day to buy the full sized bottle for $15.  Totally worth it.

What Claudia Wore

Did anyone else love The Babysitter’s Club books as much as I did? Seriously! I belonged to the actual book club and I received 3 books every month (or every other month, I don’t remember).  I read every single BSC book and total related to those girls.  This blog is written by some other BSC lover who is just hilarious. I wish I knew this girl.  She totally captures all of Claudia’s best outfits and takes me back to my childhood.

Animal Print Jeans

I’ve died and gone to animal-print heaven.  I love anything animal print. I love it even more when it’s COLORED animal print.  I don’t own these yet, but you bet I will be buying them soon.  These pants are just so uber-rad, I am dying just thinking about them.  I think paired with some black leather spike-heeled booties, a v-neck tee, and a leather motorcycle jacket; I’m going to look like the most bitchin’ girl alive.

I’m seriously digging on dark wine-colored lipstick these days.  In the winter, it just looks seriously chic.  I love MAC lipstick in Desire or Media.  Totally my favorite.  I recommend pairing it with a streak of liquid eyeliner across your top lid for a simple, hip look. 

Classic Songs + Rap = LOVE

Currently I am obsessed with songs that mash up classic songs with rap.  There is something about these songs— the beat, the crooning of some sistahs with serious pipes, and the hip-hop edge of the rap star.  I have TWO favorite songs that mix two opposing styles of music:

First: “California Soul” by Marlena Shaw & Ya Boy

Second: “Good Feeling” by Etta James & Flo Rida

Seriously people, these songs rock!

I love this thing.  I wanted a device because after reading Game of Thrones, a 800-page book, my hands and arms got tired holding that thing up! I received this for my birthday and it has changed my life for the better.  It’s super easy to buy books (don’t have to make an extra trip to the book store) and lightweight as well.  The best part about it is the keypad on the front and the way that the screen is lit.  It looks like an actual page versus staring at a computer screen. I love it.  Fellow book lovers, trust me when I say it’s worth it to buy yourself a Kindle.

Musee de l'Orangerie

This is my favorite art museum in the world.  No, it’s not the Louvre or the Musee d’Orsay.  It’s the Musee de l’Orangerie and it is right in the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris, France.  It’s the perfect location, surrounded by the leafy trees and fresh cut grass.  It’s most famously known for housing Monet’s Water Lilies collection, which of course is what draws most people in.  But for me, my favorite pieces are by Marie Laurencin!  I just love all her works, she is one of the few female Cubist painters.  She’s famous for gorgeous paintings and watercolors in her signature pastel colors and curvilinear forms.  Make sure to put this at the top of your list when you visit Paris. 

This is probably one of the nerdiest things I’m into lately.  I started reading this book, Game of Thrones, after a friend recommended it to me.  It seemed ultra-nerdy and I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it.  Boy, was I proved wrong. This series has it all— love, war, sex, violence, scandal, fantasy, everything!!  Yes, you will get made fun of.  Yes, you will be classified as a dork by your friends and family.  But you will be so happy you won’t even care.  This series of books has also been made into a television show on HBO. I haven’t seen it yet, but from what I hear it’s just as good as the books. I plan on buying it as soon as it hits the shelves. Which, unfortunately isn’t until next February. I’ll just have to occupy my time by reading all the books!

Love this nude hue on my nails.  I’m a big fan of bright nail colors- I am frequently sporting black, blue, or even glittered nails.  But this natural color (something I would normally never try) looks really stunning! Plus it has a little bit of shimmer, so you don’t look completely nail-less. I also love the Zoya brand.  It’s one of the few nail polish brands that boasts a natural, toxin free polish. Perfect!
